Digital Desk: The dates of Assembly elections in five states—Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram—are expected to be announced between October 8 and 10, Election Commission (EC) sources told India Today TV.

The election is expected to take place between the second week of November and the first week of December.

Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, and Telangana may vote in a single phase, as was done in 2018, EC sources said.

Polling in Chhattisgarh is likely to take place in two phases, as it happened in 2018, they added.

The polling dates for each of the five states may differ. The counting of votes will happen together in the five states between October 10 and 15.

Mizoram's legislative assembly's term finishes on December 17 this year. The Mizo National Front (MNF), a BJP ally, is in power in the northeastern state. The terms of the legislative assemblies of Telangana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan end on different days in January of next year.

Telangana is ruled by the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), while Madhya Pradesh is ruled by the BJP. Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh both have Congress-led governments.

Before releasing the schedule for Assembly elections in five states, the EC has assessed poll preparedness in Rajasthan, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh.

The poll body organized a meeting of its observers on Friday to finalize the strategy for the election's smooth conduct.

The day-long meeting of the EC's police, general, and expenditure observers aims to streamline strategies to ensure that the model code is efficiently implemented and that money and muscle power do not disrupt the level playing field.
