SC dismisses petitions alleging discrepancies in NEET-PG 2022 scores

Digital Desk: The Supreme Court dismissed petitions challenging the alleged discrepancies and seeking the disclosure of answer sheets for the NEET-PG 2022 Exam. NEET-PG, the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Post Graduate courses, is a crucial examination for aspiring medical professionals seeking admission to various medical science streams.

The petition, filed by a candidate named Pritish Kumar and others, sought transparency in the examination process by demanding the disclosure of answer keys, answer sheets, and question papers. However, the court rejected these demands, citing the passage of time since the examination was conducted, and deemed the petitions "infructuous."

The vacation bench, comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah, highlighted that the petitions had become irrelevant due to the time elapsed since their filing. Although the petitioner argued that some candidates would be taking the NEET-PG exam later in the year, the court maintained its decision.

The NEET-PG examination, conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE), holds significant importance for medical aspirants, as it determines their admission into various postgraduate courses following the completion of their undergraduate studies.

Despite the plea's dismissal, concerns persist regarding alleged mismatches in NEET-PG scores and the lack of provisions for re-evaluation. The bench acknowledged these concerns but emphasized the need to avoid unnecessary prolongation of legal matters.

In a separate development, the Supreme Court also sought responses from the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) regarding allegations of question paper leaks and malpractices in the NEET-UG 2024 examination. While refusing to continue the counseling process for successful NEET-UG candidates, the court underscored the importance of addressing the allegations to maintain the sanctity and integrity of the examination system.
