Sudha Murty files complaint in Bengaluru over misuse of her name for cheating people in US events

Digital Desk: Sudha Murty has filed a complaint with the Bengaluru police, stating that her name was used to deceive people in two different cases relating to events held in the US. Since then, two women have been detained, according to The Indian Express.

In the complaint, Mamata Sanjay, Murty's executive assistant, claimed that the Infosys Foundation chairwoman had received an invitation to the Kannada Koota of Northern California's (KKNC) 50th anniversary celebration. The publication reported that even though Sudha Murty's office had received an email inviting her to the event on April 5, on April 26 her office replied that she would not be able to attend.

Sudha Murty, however, was shocked to discover images and videos on August 30 that showed she would be the event's head guest. The KKNC organisers told her office that Lavanya, one of the women detained by Bengaluru police, had claimed to be Murty's assistant and confirmed her attendance at the event.

As reported by The Indian Express, Shruthi, the second lady detained in connection with Sudha Murty's complaint, received $40 (about Rs 3,300) from people who said the head of the Infosys Foundation would be attending a conference in the US. The issue was discovered when Murty's office saw a notice for a meet-and-greet with their featured guest, "Dr. Sudha Murty," on September 26. This statement referred to the sale of event tickets.

Under the relevant sections of the IPC and Information Technology Act, a case has been filed against the two women. “We are yet to ascertain whether these women are in the USA or India. Investigation is underway," a police officer privy to the case told the publication.
