Digital Desk: Amit Shah, a political titan, is often referred to be the Bharatiya Janata Party's Chanakya, having guided the saffron party to victory in the 2014 elections.
Shah is also the key strategist behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meteoric ascension. His amazing political odyssey began in the early 1980s and has seen him reach to India's highest levels of power.
Shah was born on October 22, 1964, in Mumbai to a middle-class family. His family's affiliation with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a renowned Hindu nationalist organisation, impacted his first entrance into politics.
Shah's political roots may be traced back to his undergraduate days when he joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the RSS's student arm.
Shah's grasp of politics became clear as he rose through the ranks of the BJP. His big break came in 2002 when he was named Minister of State for Home Affairs in Gujarat.
Shah's power rose even more when he was named India's Home Minister in 2019, during Modi's second term as Prime Minister. Significant policy changes and efforts have occurred during his term, notably the repeal of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir and the enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Amit Shah's role in India's political landscape has been diverse. He was the driving force behind the BJP's triumphs in various states, including Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, to name a few. His ability to form smart partnerships, interact with grassroots voters, and mobilise party workers has made him an important asset to the BJP.
Shah's organisational abilities, tactical expertise, and ability to connect with voters have been critical in changing the BJP from a regional powerhouse to a formidable national party.
As Home Minister, he is responsible for crafting India's future and dealing with important concerns such as national security and immigration. His role as the architect of Narendra Modi's successes in state and national elections has left an indelible impact on India's political landscape, elevating him to the ranks of the country's most prominent leaders.
