Atishi managed to retain her Kalkaji seat after defeating BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri by a margin of 3,521 votes.
Digital Desk: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi handed over her resignation letter to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena at the Raj Niwas on Sunday following the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) crushing defeat in the Delhi Assembly polls. The 43-year-old AAP leader had been holding the top position since September 2024 after AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal's resignation from the post of Delhi CM.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved a landmark victory in the 70-member Delhi Assembly on February 8, winning 48 seats. The AAP who won 62 seats in 2020 polls, could only win 22 seats. The Congress delivered another blank show, failing to win a single seat for the third consecutive term.
The election has seen AAP's top leaders including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Satender Jain, and several others losing the election battle. However, Atishi managed to retain her Kalkaji seat after defeating BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri by a margin of 3,521 votes.
After her victory on Saturday, Atishi vowed to continue the party's fight against the BJP. She became the third woman chief minister of Delhi after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.
An official statement stated that Delhi LG VK Saxena dissolved the Seventh Legislative Assembly of Delhi with effect from February 8, 2025.
