Desk: In a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday,
the Union cabinet approved significant policies, including modifications to the
PM Gati Shakti programme and the PM Shri Schools initiative, among others.
The
meeting's major decisions are listed below.
1. Global cooperation in the area of
education
Two of the six internal and
international policies agreed by the cabinet involve cooperation on the
education front with the UK and the UAE, a move intended to boost academic
mobility and develop dual/joint degrees in higher education.
2. Modernized schools in line with
the New Education Policy
The government intends to construct
14,500 outstanding schools with contemporary facilities as part of the PM-Shri
Schools programme, which will cost $27,360 crore and benefit 1.8 million
students, as part of its attempts to achieve the New Education Policy 2020.
3. PM Gati Shakti programme should go more quickly
The PM Gati Shakti program's policies have also been
modified by the Center. As opposed to the already permitted five years, the new
policy will allow for leases on railway properties to last up to 35 years. The
government anticipates that this action will improve the money the railways
generate while potentially creating 1.25 lakh employment.
4. Kochi Metro Rail Project II's
contribution to urban infrastructure
The government also decided to
create the second phase of the Kochi Metro Rail Project at a cost of Rs.
1,957.05 crore in an effort to raise Kerala's Ease of Living index.
5. Disaster management using
resiliency
A memorandum of understanding (MoU)
between India and the Maldives for cooperation in disaster management has also
received "ex-post facto" clearance from the Centre. Through the MoU
signed in August, a system that will guarantee preparedness, reaction, and
capacity building in the sphere of disaster management is intended to be put in

exercises involving both countries in various geographical places..
