Sidhu Moose Wala murder case: Punjab BJP leader moves SC for probe

The government of Punjab took away Mosse Wala's security barely a day before he was killed, and knowledge of it was widely publicised, the petition stated.

Digital Desk: A BJP leader in Punjab on Friday moved to
the Supreme Court seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation
into the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala by unidentified assailants
in Punjab’s Mansa.

The
petition, filed by Advocates Sarthak Chaturvedi, Namit Saxena, and Shubham
Jaiswal, said that the state of Punjab is experiencing a storm of fear and
terror and that the Supreme Court should intervene since the people's
fundamental rights have been compromised.

"The
manner in which the cold-blooded execution was carried out in broad daylight
demonstrates that the state machinery in Punjab has woefully failed in its job
not merely to prevent crime but also to properly reduce the threat of gang
wars." "There is a storm of fear and terror in Punjab, which requires
intervention by this Court since the fundamental rights of Punjab's whole
population have been imperilled," the petition stated.

The plea
also stated that the brutal murder of Sidhu Moose Wala has shocked the
community at large, and the people of Punjab are confident that the state will
not conduct an effective investigation but will instead try to cover up its
failure by removing security cover, and that the incident deserves to be
investigated by a central agency.

It stated
that because the case involves not only inter-state but also worldwide crime
syndicates, it is in the best interests of justice if the investigation into
the current FIR is moved to the CBI.

The petition
further claims that the state of Punjab is plagued by drug and gun culture.
Unfortunately, the state has not been able to isolate itself from separatists
wanting to establish Khalistan, and therefore the likelihood of separatist
complicity in the murder cannot be ruled out. A central agency, such as the
CBI, should look into the situation.

The

Moreover,
the plea added that the removal of the security cover encouraged the assailants
to immediately attack and kill him and send a message across to the community
at large.
