    Digital Desk: At least 18 people, including 11 women and five children, were killed in a stampede at the New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night at around 10 PM. More than 15 people were also injured as thousands of devotees gathered to board trains for Prayagraj to participate in the religious congregation, Maha Kumbh Mela.

    The injured were rushed to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital and Lady Hardinge Hospital for treatment. The incident occurred on Saturday night due to a sudden rush of passengers at the station's platform numbers 14 and 15.

    The eyewitnesses revealed that the stampede occurred due to a rumor that the Prayagraj Express was going to arrive on a different platform.

    According to reports, the Ministry of Railways has formed a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the horrific stampede incident at the New Delhi Railway Station.

    Expressing his grief over the unexpected incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on X said, "Distressed by the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured have a speedy recovery. The authorities are assisting all those who have been affected by this stampede."
