The Centre Launches The 'Agnipath' Scheme To Recruit Young People Into The Armed Forces

Digital Desk: The centre launched a new scheme named
'Agnipath' on Tuesday for the recruitment of personnel in the Army, Navy, and
Air Force. The arrangement, which will largely be on a short-term contract
basis, was developed with the goal of reducing rising pay and pension costs.
Following clearance by the Cabinet Committee on Security, Union Defence
Minister Rajnath Singh unveiled the new scheme at a press conference.

is a transformative effort that will give the Indian Army a youthful profile
when announcing its debut. "Under the Agnipath initiative, Indian youth
would be able to serve in the armed forces as 'Agniveers,'" the Defence
Minister explained. As a result of the substantial changes in the recruitment
procedure, troops will be inducted for a four-year period, with some of them
being retained based on their performance.

enrolled in the armed forces under this scheme, according to Navy Chief Admiral
R Hari Kumar. The Agnipath scheme, formerly known as the "Tour of
Duty," was unveiled in the presence of the three services' leaders. It
should be mentioned that this new design has been carefully considered for the
past two years and was announced after taking everything into account.

The troops that will be enlisted as part of the programme
will be known as "Agniveer." The plan is to deduct the three
services' rapidly rising compensation and pension expenditures. It's worth
noting that the defence budget for 2022-23, which totaled Rs 5,25,166 crore,
includes Rs 1,19,696 crore for defence pensions alone. The budgetary allotment
for revenue spending was Rs 2,33,000 crore. Expenses for paying salaries and
maintaining establishments are included in revenue expenditures.
