Digital Desk: On 8th January 2025, the Tirupati experience a deadly stampede as huge turnout of devotees, were present there. To get tokens for the Vaikunta Ekadasi festival that was set to take place at the Tirumala temple on 10th of January. This event caused 6 innocent deaths plus the cases of more than 20 people by severe injuries.

Visual from the from the spot show people crowding each other badly, police failed to handle the situation. The devotees who were severely injured were first rushed to the Sri Venkateswara Ramnarain Ruia Government Hospital.

According to the officials of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), this gruesome tragedy took place near Vishnu Nivasm as the crowd charges. The situation worsened when the authorities opened the gate to provide to an elderly devotee, however, taking chance of the situation many others pushed and that led to the tragic incident. This massive turnout goes over the management’s expectation, the TTD had set up 94 counters in several areas to issue 1.2 lakh tokens at 5 a.m. on 9th of January.

Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu condemns the incident and expresses his condolence to the family of the deceased and promises to give the best medical treatment to the injured.

TTD chairman has also condemned to the incident and admitted of the authority in managing the crowd. Tirupati’s  Tirumala temple has many festivals with programmers and of them the Vaikunta Ekadasi festival is very famous and every year thousands of devotees attend the festival. Therefore, it is necessary for the authorities of the temple to apply strict measures in order to avert such a situation in the near future.
