Digital Desk: Following the formation of cyclone Tej in the Arabian Sea, a new cyclone is developing in the Bay of Bengal. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal deepened into a deep depression, lay centered about 5.30 pm today, and traveled nearly northward at a speed of 17 kmph over the previous six hours.
Within the next 24 hours, it is likely to become a cyclonic storm as it continues to strengthen.
IMD added that Cyclone Hamoon is forecast to proceed roughly northward until October 23 in the morning, then move north-northeastward and cross the Bangladeshi coast between Khepupara and Chittagong in the late afternoon of October 25 as a deep depression.
According to the IMD's forecast, the cyclone would likely affect the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh. As a result, yellow rain advisories have been issued in areas of the northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till October 26, 2023.
