Digital Desk: After thousands of students came to the streets in Imphal on September 26 to protest the deaths of two Meitei teens, the Manipur government has reimposed an internet restriction for the next five days.
According to the notification, "The State Government decides to suspend/curb the mobile internet data services, internet/data services through VPN in the territorial jurisdiction of the state of Manipur for five days with immediate effect till 7:45 PM of October 1, 2023."
It should be noted that thousands of students took to the streets in Imphal to seek justice after the horrible killings of two Meitei students who had been missing since July 6.
The protests, however, were met with a robust police response, which included the use of tear gas and smoke bombs to clear away the masses.
The students banded together in their demand for justice, condemning the horrific deeds that had taken the lives of their fellow Meitei students.
They demonstrated their strong objection to the reported armed Kuki miscreants' ruthless slaughter of innocent youngsters by holding banners and chanting slogans. Among the shouts heard were calls for the perpetrators of the awful murders to be punished.
Earlier on September 23, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh overturned the internet ban, which had been in effect since May 3, 2023.
