The Assam Police have responded to the complaint but have not yet registered an official FIR.
Digital Desk: The management of NIT silchar has placed Dr. D Koteshwara Raju, an Assistant Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering on immediate suspensions after an first-year female student charged him with molestation. The administration made the suspension announcement early in the morning at 3:00 AM today, following massive protests across the campus demanding strict action.
According to the victim, the professor invited her to his office where he started making unwanted physical contact and tried to grab her. The student somehow escaped as she felt both shocked and distressed.
As per reports, Dr. Raju touched the student inappropriately which made the student scared and uncomfortable afterwards she shared her experience with other classmates. Student demonstrators rose up quickly to protest following which they immediately started demanding disciplinary actions. The protests intensified, with students demanding a transparent and swift investigation.
Institutional sources confirmed that Dr. Raju has faced similar harassment complaints in the past against him. Dr. Raju also faced a similar complaint in 2021 which was joined by several other unreported allegations regarding his behavior.
The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) at NIT Silchar has begun conducting an official investigation of the reported allegations. Under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013 the committee dedicated to investigating such cases has promised to conduct an impartial probe of the situation.
