Digital Desk: As a result of the recent cloud burst in Sikkim, all schools (public and private) in four districts will stay closed till October 8, announces the Education Department, Sikkim.

The education department in Sikkim issued an order indicating that schools in the districts of Pakyong, Gangtok, Namchi, and Mangan will be closed for the next four days.

Earlier today, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang asked residents to be cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.

This comes after 23 army men went missing following the severe flash floods that wreaked devastation in the state, with water levels rising to 15-20 feet downstream.

CM Tamang looking at the situation posted on X-

We are all aware of the recent natural calamity that has struck our state. Emergency services have been mobilized to the affected areas, and I personally visited Singtam to assess the damages and engage with the local community.

Following that, CM Tamang went to Singtam to survey the damage and meet with the local population.
