Gangtok: A total of 68 monks of Lingdum monastery in Ranka near Gangtok have been infected with covid-19 virus official report said.
As per the report, all the 68 monks are below the age of 18 years with the youngest being a 7-year-old. Moreover, all of them have now been contained in the Gymnasium hall in Paljor Stadium, Gangtok.
According to the source, the spread of the virus among the monks is assumed to be from one of the monks travelling out of the monastery and bringing back the virus to the monastery.
As per the official report, Sikkim currently reported 2,281 active cases, while a total of 19,767 people infected with the virus have recovered from the disease so far.
Earlier, in May more than 400 monks had been tested positive for covid-19 most of whom were from Rumtek monastery and Nyingma institute.
