Akhil Gogoi's strong opposition against CAA, says 'BJP will remain as Himanta Biswa Sarma Company Pvt Ltd. in Assam'

Digital Desk: Akhil Gogoi, the president of Raijor Dal Party and Sivasagar MLA, has voiced strong opposition against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) during a media interaction in Dhubri. He criticized the enactment of CAA as being detrimental to Assam's interests, labeling it as anti-constitutional and divisive.

Gogoi vehemently criticized the Assam state government for extending the CAA's enforcement across the entire state, which he argued would adversely affect the indigenous population. He questioned the government's decision to include all individuals after March 24, 1971, under the CAA process, despite ongoing legal challenges in the Supreme Court.

Accusing the state BJP of transforming into what he termed "Himanta Biswa Sarma Company Private Limited," Gogoi highlighted the disillusionment among former BJP members who once opposed corruption during Congress rule but now feel marginalized under the current leadership.

Expressing skepticism over the practicality and fairness of the CAA, Gogoi pointed out the minimal number of applications received under the law's provisions. He emphasized that since 1971, no new immigrants from Bangladesh should be considered, asserting that the Assamese people have firmly rejected the principles of the CAA.

Gogoi also hinted at potential defections from the BJP to Raijor Dal, stating that some leaders from Upper Assam have shown interest in joining his party. He asserted that loyal BJP members dissatisfied with current policies may seek alternative political affiliations before the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.

Gogoi called for the revocation of the state government's notifications regarding CAA and challenged the BJP leadership to reconsider its stance on the controversial law in the interest of Assam's indigenous communities.
