Digital Desk: The governments of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the national capital on Thursday, in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, to resolve a long-standing border issue along the borders of both northeastern states.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Assam chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart Prema Khandu.
"The signing of an agreement to settle an inter-state boundary dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh is a very big achievement. Today marks a watershed moment in the development of a prosperous, peaceful, and conflict-free northeast," said Amit Shah on the occasion.
The Assam cabinet approved the proposals of the state government's 12 regional committees constituted to resolve the decades-long border dispute with Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday.
Earlier in March 2022, the governments of Assam and Meghalaya inked a historic deal in the national capital to resolve their 50-year-old border dispute.
The agreement was signed by Assam and Meghalaya two months after the chief ministers of the two states submitted a draught resolution to Amit Shah on January 31 for assessment and consideration by the MHA.
