Digital Desk: Two arrested officials of the AK Construction Company have been granted bail, according to reports.
Bail was granted to the contractor, Parijat Saikia, and the director, B. Balaji. The two were arrested after a case was filed under 1034/23 at the Dispur Police Station in Guwahati.
Contractor Parijat Saikia was arrested from Soteea in Biswanath district, and director B. Balaji was arrested from his office in Guwahati's Narengi area. The duo was then brought before the court.
Earlier this month, an accident in Guwahati's Ganeshguri area claimed the life of an 11th-grade student. After this, the Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water (GMDA) and Sewerage Board filed an FIR against AK Construction Company after detecting anomalies in work due to negligence of duty.
It should be noted that M Venkateswara Rao is the owner of AK Construction Company. It is categorized as "Borewell Contractors" in Guwahati, where it was hired to work at 12 different locations throughout the city on a water supply project. However, according to insiders, the Jal Board detected various irregularities in their work.
AK Construction Company is one of the contractors granted a contract to work on a JICA-supported water supply project in Guwahati to install pipelines.
