Digital Desk: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that he will file a defamation suit against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his Adani tweet yesterday. This comes after Gandhi, in a tweet on Saturday, connected CM Sarma to the ongoing Adani controversy. Gandhi had published a list of treacherous leaders, including Himanta Biswa Sarma, to spell Adani. In response, Sarma stated that it was their politeness not to bring up the Bofors and National Herald scams.
Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the BJP once more with claims against the Adani Group, claiming that the Congress leader's decision to join the BJP was merely a distraction. "They hide the truth, that's why they mislead everyday!" Gandhi said in a tweet.
He shared an image of his Twitter timeline yesterday, which included the identities of five Congress snitches. Sarma's name was also included on the list. "The question remains the same - who has ₹20,000 crore benami money in Adani's companies?" Gandhi tweeted.
In response, the Assam chief minister, who joined the BJP in 2015, tweeted to Rahul Gandhi, "It was our decency to have never asked you, on where have you concealed the proceeds of crime from the Bofors and National Herald Scams. And how you allowed Ottavio Quattrocchi to escape the clutches of Indian justice multiple times. Any way we will meet in the Court of Law (sic)."
Following Rahul Gandhi's disqualification as a Lok Sabha member due to his conviction in a criminal defamation case, the Congress leader stated that he would continue to investigate the PM's connection with (Gautam) Adani and who invested 20,000 crore in Adani Group through shell companies.
"Please understand that I am disqualified because the Prime Minister is afraid of my next speech on Adani. My speech is not what they want," Gandhi said at a press conference last month.
Throughout the second half of the budget session in Parliament, a number of opposition parties, headed by the Congress, protested in favour of a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) inquiry into the Adani issue.
Hindenburg Research has filed multiple allegations against the Adani Group, including forged transactions and share price manipulation. The Gautam Adani-led organization has refuted the allegations, asserting that it adheres to all laws and transparency responsibilities.
