Cattle Smuggling Cases Grip Assam, BJP Star Campaigner Sukur Ali Among Several Apprehended

Digital Desk: A spate of cattle smuggling incidents has sent shockwaves through various parts of Assam, with the most prominent case involving Sukur Ali, a star campaigner for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). On Friday, Ali was apprehended by the Agomoni police while attempting to smuggle cow meat from West Bengal to Gauripur in Dhubri. Surprisingly, Ali himself confessed to the crime.

Eyewitnesses reported that alert members of the public intervened, leading to Ali's apprehension. He was subsequently handed over to the local police. The smuggled meat had been transported on a scooty bearing registration number AS-01-DP-5469.

In a separate incident, the police in Tezpur intercepted a significant haul of smuggled cattle. They discovered 40 cattle being transported in trucks en route to Guwahati to Numaligarh. The operation unfolded at Balipukhuri Tiniali in Tezpur when one of the trucks collided with a parked vehicle. The driver of the truck involved in the accident was taken into custody.

Meanwhile, in Bilasipara, Dhubri, locals took matters into their own hands when they confronted cattle smugglers attempting to transport 14 cattle, presumably to Bangladesh. The smugglers fled, abandoning both the cattle and their vehicles, which were later handed over to the Bilasipara police by concerned citizens.

In yet another incident in Kaliabor's Sari Sabari No.2, a confrontation erupted between locals and cattle thieves. Residents managed to seize the luxury vehicle used by the criminals, forcing them to flee the scene. An agitated crowd vented their frustration by damaging the abandoned vehicle.

These recent incidents highlight the escalating issue of cattle smuggling in Assam and underscore the importance of community vigilance and law enforcement efforts in combating this illicit trade. Authorities are expected to tighten security and increase surveillance to curb these activities in the region.
