Digital Desk: The alarming horror stories continue to emerge from Manipur, just days after unsettling images of two women being paraded naked by a mob in the ethnically divided state went viral on social media. An armed group allegedly burned alive an 80-year-old woman, the wife of a freedom warrior, in her home in Manipur's Kakching district.

According to an NDTV story, the woman was held inside her home and set burned by an armed group in Kakching district's Serou hamlet on May 28. Former President APJ Abdul Kalam recognised the woman's late husband, independence fighter S Churachand Singh.

Serou village was one of the worst-affected villages during the May 3 ethnic violence between the Meiteis community and the Kuki tribe over the Meiteis' quest for Scheduled Tribes (ST) status.

    The Incident-

Ibetombi, Churachand Singh's wife, was inside her house when her family was attacked. She was inside her home when an armed group allegedly broke down the door and set fire to it.

"When we were attacked, my grandmother told us to flee right away and return for her later." 'Come back and get me,' she murmured as we walked away. Unfortunately, they were her final words," Ibetombi's grandson Premkanta was cited in the report as saying.

Premkanta claimed he miraculously avoided the horrible day, despite bullets grazing his arm and thigh while attempting to save his grandma. His grandma insisted that he escape the shooting while she remained inside her home and requested him to return for her. "Ibetombi stayed at home because she couldn't run due to her age." He said.

Premkanta returned two months later, only to find fragments of cracked wood and metal. His granny is no longer alive. He rummaged through the splintered wood and found one of his grandmother's most treasured possessions: a photograph of Ibetombi's husband with former President APJ Abdul Kalam.

In the latest development, Manipur Police have detained a sixth individual in connection with the naked parade of two women in the state's Kangpokpi district on May 4, officials said on Saturday. According to police, the apprehended suspect is a minor.

Since ethnic violence erupted in the state on May 3, more than 160 people have died and numerous have been injured
