Digital Desk: Amid reports of alleged malpractices during the ongoing HSLC Cachar for English subject at the JR Higher Secondary School centre in Cachar district on March 3, the Board of Secondary Education (SEBA) has decided that all 760 students at that centre will have to reappear for English subject in the Compartmental examination, 2023 which will be conducted in due course.
The directive came after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma became aware of the incidents of cheating and paper leaks and directed SEBA to take action against the examination centres where paper leak instances are taking place.
Following the directive of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, SEBA released a notification saying that a section of candidates from centre no. B23-0138, JR Higher Secondary School, Ganirgram, Cachar district, was reported to have used unfair means during examination hours.
"That, it believed that the sanctity of the examination in the said examination centre was compromised due to such malpractices adopted in the centre. On the basis of the stated report, SEBA has decided that all the 760 numbers of students of that particular centre have to re-appear for English subject, in the Compartmental examination, 2023," the notification reads.
Meanwhile, SEBA has stated that the answer scripts of JR Higher Secondary School, Ganirgram students for the English subject conducted on March 3, 2023, will not be evaluated.
Subsequently, on the second day of the HSLC exam, the question paper for the mathematics subject was leaked on Monday.
As per reports, the paper leak incident was reported in the Cachar district, where the question paper went viral 15 minutes after the start of the mathematics exam.
A few images of the question paper went viral on social media platforms as well.
The pictures of the question paper are thought to have been leaked from an examination centre in Lakhipur.
The Cachar Education Department has yet to comment on the incident involving the paper leak.
Earlier, on the first day of the examination, the question paper of the English subject was apparently leaked from the Barpeta district.
However, SEBA secretary and exam controller Narnarayan Nath refuted the media claims as false and baseless.
"The reports about the English paper leak in the current HSLC exam are false and baseless. Since we are watchful and taking the utmost precautions, there is no risk of question paper leakage. Moreover, the question paper went viral on social media almost two hours after the exam began. If it had happened in the morning, it could have been classified as a leak," Narnarayan Nath told the media.
Nath added that the pictures circulating on social media were posted by locals of the Barpeta district and ordered the school inspector to monitor the matter.
