Digital Desk: The prime suspect in the tragic suicide case of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kisan Morcha secretary Indrani Tahbildar is set to be produced before a court on Wednesday following the completion of his seven-day police custody. Anurag Chaliha, who had been remanded in police custody by a lower court, faces allegations of being involved in the circumstances that led to Indrani Tahbildar's untimely death.
The case took a grim turn after intimate photos of Tahbildar and Chaliha were leaked on social media platforms, eventually leading to her suicide. The shocking incident sent shockwaves through political circles in Assam.
Following Tahbildar's suicide, Anurag Chaliha had gone into hiding. However, police were able to track him down in Demow, Sivasagar, on August 14. Chaliha is accused of embezzling crores of rupees from individuals who were seeking government jobs in the state.
Yesterday, the Chandmari Police conducted a thorough operation at the residence where Anurag Chaliha had been staying as a tenant, which was also the residence of Indrani Tahbildar. During the operation, they unearthed evidence supporting allegations of cash-for-job scams, along with information pertaining to candidates who allegedly paid substantial sums of money in exchange for government job opportunities.
The discovery of such evidence has only added to the gravity of the case, implicating Chaliha in a more significant scandal involving corruption and the abuse of political influence.
In a further development, BJP leader Mriganka Barman has been summoned by the police and is directed to appear at the Chandmari Police Station today. While the exact nature of his involvement or the reasons behind his summons remain undisclosed at this time, it is clear that authorities are actively investigating any potential links to the unfolding scandal.
