Digital Desk: Droupadi Murmu, President of India, will present the National Teachers' Award 2023 to 75 selected Awardees on September 5, 2023 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

Each prize comes with a certificate of merit, a cash award of Rs. 50,000, and a silver medal. The honorees will also have the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A proud moment from Assam as Kumud Kalita from Pathshala Senior Secondary School in Muguria is one of 75 awardees who will receive the National Teachers' Award in 2023.

Netai Chandra Dey of Ramakrishna Mission School in Arunachal Pradesh, Ningthoujam Binoy Singh of Chingmei Upper Primary School in Manipur, Dr. Purna Bahadur Chhetri of Government Senior Secondary School in Sikkim, Lalthianghlima of Government Diakkawn High School in Mizoram, and Madhav Singh of Alpha English Higher Secondary School in Meghalaya are among the other teachers from the Northeast to be honoured with the prestigious award,

It should be noted that India observes National Teachers' Day on September 5, the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

The goal of the National Teachers' Award is to recognise teachers for their distinctive contributions to the country and to honour those instructors who, by their commitment and dedication, have not only increased the quality of education but also impacted the lives of their students.

Nominations were sought online to maximise participation to recognise creative teaching, research, community outreach, and job innovation (Jan Bhagidari).

Notably, every year on Teachers Day, the Ministry of Education's Department of School Education and Literacy hosts a national level celebration to present the National Awards to the top teachers in the country, who are chosen following a rigorous and transparent selection procedure.

The scope of the National Teachers' Award has been enlarged this year to include teachers from the Department of Higher Education and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. This year, 50 school teachers, 13 higher education teachers, and 12 Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship teachers will be honoured.

Previously, the Union Education Minister established three independent Independent National Juries comprised of distinguished individuals for the appointment of teachers.
