Digital Desk: The Meghalaya government has decided to return the body of the forest guard who died in the Assam-Meghalaya border firing incident in Mukhrow. The administration was notified of this on Wednesday.

The forest guard, identified as Vidyasingh Lekthe, was killed during the conflict between Assam Police and Forest Guards and Meghalaya civilians.

Vidyasingh's body will be handed over to West Karbi Anglong police in Khanduli.

Meanwhile, the Karbi Parishad's stance on the disputed land is clear.

The council refuted the claim that the land belonged to Meghalaya.

Moreover, the Assam cabinet has expressed disappointment over the Assam-Meghalaya dispute. Reportedly, the CBI will investigate the incident, and Assam Police have been directed to prepare an SOP.

Meanwhile, a committee of inquiry led by Justice Rumi Phukan was also formed, and the committee would submit its report within 60 days.

It should be noted that on November 22, an incident of firing happened between Assam Forest Officials and unknown miscreants at Mukhrow under Jirikinding PS in West Karbi Anglong District. Reportedly,  the incident happened when the Forest department personnel tried to halt a truck carrying illegal timber. When the truck was stopped by forest department employees, they were surrounded by unknown miscreants who resorted to violence. To save their lives, the forest department personnel resorted to firing. Three civilians and one forest guard died in the incident.
