Water level rise in Brahmaputra results in suspension of ferry service between Guwahati and North Guwahati

The suspension will stay in effect until the water level has stabilised and activities may be resumed safely...

Digital Desk: The Guwahati-North Guwahati ferry services will temporarily cease service as of July 16, according to the Inland Water Transport Department. This choice was made to prioritise passenger safety and avert any potential catastrophes in reaction to the Brahmaputra River's rising flood level.

Because of the elevated water level, which poses possible threats to the proper running of ferry services, the department has taken this precautionary measure.

The suspension will stay in effect until the water level has stabilised and activities may be resumed safely.

However, it is to be mentioned that this is not the first time that the Brahmaputra River's rising water level has resulted in the suspension of ferry service.

The ferry service between Kamalabari in Majuli and Nimatighat in Jorhat was temporarily discontinued on July 9 by the Department of Inland Water Transport. Given the severe river conditions, this decision was made to guarantee the safety of passengers and vessels.
