Ambubachi Mela Ready to be Held after Two Years Cov Gap!

Digital Desk: The famous Ambubachi Mela, held every year in Assam, is returning to Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati after two years due to the dreadful COVID-19 pandemic. 

The announcement comes after a meeting between the temple authorities (Kamakhya Devalaya Management Committee) and the Kamrup Metro district administration. 

As per the latest reports, the rituals for the festival will commence on June 22, 2022, and will conclude on June 26, 2022.

The temple authorities and devotees will celebrate this year's Ambubachi Mela with its former glory and fanfare. The public will not be allowed to visit the temple due to Ambubachi rituals, and this will come into effect at 8.16 pm on June 22 and will last till the morning hours of June 26. 

Meanwhile, last year's Ambubachi Mela in Kamakhya Temple, Guwahati, was observed only by performing Vedic rituals due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The administration imposed a ban on the entry of devotees and visitors to the temple premises last year. "No permission will be granted to any devotee or visitor to enter the mandir premises during the mela days. No mela will be organized. Only rituals will be performed," said a mandir committee member.

 Earlier, the District Magistrate of Kamrup Metropolitan District administration had urged the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, not to allow any devotee/pilgrim coming from other parts of the state (except the residents of the Nilachal hill) to travel uphill of the temple on the dates mentioned during the festival period, i.e., from June 22 to 30.

Further, the Station Superintendent, Guwahati, and Kamakhya Railway Station had also been directed to take necessary action and were requested to make necessary arrangements so that pilgrims from other parts of the country do not visit the temple on the concerned occasion.
