Digital Desk: In a significant move towards development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a series of key decisions following a cabinet meeting on Sunday. The state cabinet has approved the establishment of a massive industrial park in Morigaon district, allotting 569 bighas (over 188 acres) of land for this ambitious project. This park is expected to boost industrial growth and create numerous job opportunities in the region.
In a step towards promoting sustainable energy, the cabinet also approved the Assam Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2025. The policy is designed to encourage the development of green energy projects, including solar, wind, mini and small hydro, and hydrogen energy. This policy aims to place Assam at the forefront of clean energy production in the country.
The state cabinet also decided to notify the Sikhna Jwhwlao forest in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts as a national park, making it the eighth national park in Assam. Covering an area of 316 sq. km, the park is expected to enhance the state's conservation efforts and biodiversity.
In administrative changes, the number of members in the Tiwa Autonomous Council (TAC) has been increased from 36 to 42. The cabinet also set the dates for various elections, including the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council elections in April and several others later in the year.
Additionally, the cabinet approved the establishment of Swami Vivekananda University and sanctioned post-graduate increments for Ayurvedic doctors completing their 3-year PG course. These decisions highlight the state’s commitment to progress across various sectors.
