Digital Desk: Congress leader Bhupen Bora expressed intense anger after a journalist Dilawar Hussain Mozumder, was arrested. Mazumdar blamed the BJP-governed administration for running massive fraud operations within diverse institutions and banking systems, including the Assam Co-operative Apex Bank.
The Apex Bank, a prestigious financial institution in Assam. It has often been embroiled in large-scale corruption and has disrupted the name of prestigious Assam-based Apex Bank according to recent reports. Multiple people have misused the bank’s money and while the journalist sought to expose them, authorities attempted to suppress the truth by arresting them.
Congress has extended its full power to the protesting journalist and is also prepared to provide legal assistance to Dilawar Hussain’s family. The political party has called for Dilawar Hussain's immediate release while simultaneously condemning the Assam Chief Minister for what they believe is his discriminatory approach in governance.
The Panbazar Police Station filed two separate FIRs within their jurisdiction against Dilawar Hussain Mozumder. Security guard Sishupal Boro stood as the complainant who filed case number 110/25 at the Assam Co-operative Apex Bank. On 25th March, 2025, Sishupal Boro filed a complaint against the accused person who verbally attacked him with caste-based verbal abuse while Boro worked as a security guard at the station.
The second case (111/25) was filed by D.Saikia, the bank’s Managing Director. According to the complaint, Dilawar Hussain unlawfully entered the bank’s headquarters, attempted to steal confidential documents and fled when employees noticed him. The perpetrator threatened bank personnel by shouting at them and rendered services impractical during the bank incident.
Congress members have spoken out against the police arrest, calling it an attempt to silence journalists from revealing instances of public corruption. The demand for Dilawar Hussain's release has accelerated as political figures alongside media organizations monitor this matter intensely.
Lawyers of Mozumder received no access to their client due to police officers who locked the station gates. The authorities confiscated his mobile phone, which led to a complete blocking of communication channels and reports suggest this seizure happened soon after his arrest.
The Guwahati Press Club has strongly condemned the incident, with President Sushmita Goswami and General Secretary Sanjay Ray demanding his immediate release.

Media bodies and civil rights groups continue to seek transparency in the police’s actions, raising concerns over the safety of journalists in Assam.
