Weather Update Today: Heavy rains in Assam and Meghalaya, heatwaves in Bihar, Jharkhand, and MP

Heavy downpours are expected in southeastern Meghalaya, northeastern Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, southwestern Karnataka, and northwestern Kerala.

Digital Desk: At lower tropospheric levels, widespread light to moderate Rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim over the next 4-5 days due to strong southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to the Northeast and the adjoining east Indian states.

As a result, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a 'Red Warning' for Assam and Meghalaya on Tuesday, advising residents to take immediate action against the hazardous weather conditions. 

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northeast will be on 'orange alert' or 'yellow alert.'

Scattered Thunderstorms are expected over most parts of Northeast India.

Thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds, and hail are possible over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Andaman & Nicobar, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh.

Heavy Rainfall in southeastern Meghalaya, northeastern Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, southwestern Karnataka, and northwestern Kerala.

Heatwave conditions are expected in isolated areas across Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand.

Dust storms or thunderstorms with gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are possible over Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi.

Maximum temperatures of 40°C or higher are expected in the northern half of the subcontinent's inland plains.

Over much of Northeast India, scattered thunderstorms are expected. 

Thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds have been predicted for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal.

Thunderstorms with lightning are expected in remote areas in Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Konkan, Goa, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep.

Heavy rain is forecast in western Assam, southwestern Karnataka, and northern Kerala.

The inland plains of the northern subcontinent are likely to reach temperatures of 40°C or higher. 

The following meteorological events are also expected to occur as a result of the southwesterly winds:

On Tuesday, Meghalaya had isolated exceptionally heavy rains. Heavy rain is expected in Mizoram and Tripura through Wednesday.

Over the next 3-4 days, isolated to scattered Rainfall with isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected across Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha.

Today, the Southwest Monsoon has moved into some parts of the South Bay of Bengal and most of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Andaman Sea. 

It is very likely to cause widespread Rainfall with isolated heavy falls, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the next five days.
