Now the question is: Was the CM really concerned about people’s agony, or was it a publicity stunt?
Digital Desk: In a recent video that went viral and received negative responses from the masses, the chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, was seen scolding an IAS officer as the traffic was put to a halt as the convoy of the Minister’s passing of by. CM Sarma said, “Koi Roja Moharaja Aaya Hain Kya,” in anger and bashed the officer in charge. People were unhappy with the CM’s rude and unprofessional behaviour and commented that the minister should actually be held responsible for such inconvenience caused to the general public in the name of Convoys.
Unfortunately, the same problem continues as harassment to the general public whenever the traffic is put to a halt before any Minister’s Convoy arrives. Now the question is: Was the CM really concerned about people’s agony, or was it a publicity stunt? As per previous statements made by the CM, he clearly stated that no siren would be allowed for any minister’s vehicle passing by and that the traffic would not be hampered, as well as the convoys would pass just like the commoners. But, in a contrasting scenario, we have seen that though sirens have stopped to some extent, the latter issue remains. When a Traffic police personnel on duty was enquired about the same, he replied that he was just doing his job by following the orders received from higher administration.
It is high time; The Police Administration should abide by the instructions made by the Assam CM of not stopping the traffic because it causes harassment to the general public. The government should reconsider the promises made regarding this. The road tax is collected from the people, and therefore rules should be the same for all, irrespective of positions held. The CM should take immediate action regarding this matter and prove that he is really concerned about the people as a whole.
