Digital Desk: Within Guwahati a horrifying occurrence of sexual violation at the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) engaging a 13-year-old minor girl has given rise to indignation everywhere in Assam. The victim who was going through treatment at the GMCH disclosed the sexual assault incident which led to rapid police action and the arrest of two hospital staff members.
The victim registered a complaint at Bhangagarh Police Station on account of which a case was lodged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
This shocking incident reportedly happened on January 21, 2025, when a male cleaner identified as Abdul Rashid assaulted a minor girl within the GMCH premises. Following the incident, initial investigations disclosed the involvement of a female staff member, Karabi Roy. She was also arrested by the police, increasing concerns over safety measures at the hospital.
The guilty have been produced before the court and are now in judicial custody. The Law enforcement authorities have assured that all important steps are being taken to ensure justice. The victim has also received urgent medical care under the POCSO Act condition.
This incident has activated extensive public anger, demanding strict measures to protect individuals in public healthcare facilities. Activists and advocacy groups are calling for organizational reforms by improving security measures and strict actions against those responsible for the assault.
