Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared drone footage taken this morning along with an update on the rhino's condition on Twitter. The rhino can be seen in the video standing in a riverine.
The tweet read, "An urgent update: Our rhino friend, who met with an accident in Haldibari recently, is found to be doing well. I am sharing a drone video taken this morning. We urge all to be kind to our animals. Go slow while passing through corridors where you know some animals might cross."
Outrage over the incident was sparked when the accident video went viral on social media. CM Sarma advised everyone to treat animals with kindness. "Go slow while passing through corridors where you know some animals might cross."
Assam CM shared CCTV footage of the terrible incident, informing that the rhino survived and the truck driver had been fined. The CM further stated that the Assam government is constructing a unique 32-km elevated corridor to help rescue animals at Kaziranga and that the government would not tolerate any intrusions into rhinos' protected zones.
A forest official stated that the speed limit on the Haldibari corridor is 40 km per hour, but the truck was speeding at 52 km per hour.
