Digital Desk: The Maha Shivaratri festival is being celebrated with great enthusiasm and religious fervor across Assam, including in Sivasagar. Devotees from various parts of the region came to visit Shiva Dol since early morning to worship Lord Shiva the god of gods through prayers and sacred rituals.
The historical Shiva Dol in Sivasagar hosts the four-day festival which stands as a central celebration in the city. Member of Parliament for Jorhat Gaurav Gogoi took part in the religious ritual at the Shiva Dol this morning.
Sivasagar city enjoys a festive mood thanks to the elaborate security measures taken up by the local administration for a safe and smooth celebration.
Religious along with cultural programs will take place during the entire duration of the event. Maha Shivaratri stands as a significant day in Hinduism and the devotees also keep fasts while worshipping Lord Shiva and seeking for blessings from Bholenath.
The religious events are accompanied by a large-scale fair that includes more than 500 businesses from local and outside the state areas. The district administration has also declared the 27th February and 28th February as a local holiday for the celebration of Mahashivratri.
