Digital Desk: Veteran Assamese actor Nipon Goswami, who began his career as a child artist in 1957, passed away on Thursday morning at about 9.15 AM at Nemcare Hospital.
At the age of 80, Goswami reportedly left for his heavenly home at around 9.15 am. On October 24, he was admitted to the hospital, where a skilled medical team was treating him and keeping an eye on his well-being. He had a heart arrest this morning, though, and died as a result.
Nipon Goswami’s Career and Life
Nipon Goswami, a seasoned performer in both theatre and film, is well-known for his work in the Assamese film industry. After beginning his career on the stage, he transitioned to the silver screen in 1968 with the release of the movie Sangram.
Films like Dr. Bezbaruah (1970), Shakuntala Aru Sankar Joseph Ali (1984), Hiya Diya Niya (2000), Antaheen Jatra (2004), Borolar Ghor (2012), and Gaane Ki Aane include some of his best-known work (2016). In addition to his work in the Assamese cinema industry, he also appeared in Hindi movies such as Debut With Do Bhai (1968), Jaggu (1975), Kaal Sandhya (1991), Daman (2001), and Purab Ki Awaz (2017).
He had a movie out in 2017 called Sesh Angika. In addition to Nipon Goswami, Jayanta Bhagabati and Nayan Nilim play significant roles in the Pronoy Phukan-directed film. He will be releasing Seema - The Untold Story in 2019.
He was born in Kolibari, Tezpur, Assam, on September 3, 1942. His mother Nirupama Goswami was a singer, while his father Chandradhar Goswami was a well-known actor. He attended Kolibari LP School for his elementary education. He then transferred to the Tezpur Government High School.
He travelled to Calcutta for an interview at the Pune Film Institute after earning his B.A. He travelled to Pune in 1965 to receive his acting training. His students were Subhash Ghai, Navin Nichol, Shatrughan Sinha, and others.
He made his Assamese film debut in 1957 as a child actor in the Phani Sarma-directed film Piyali Phukan. His first Assamese film and first success as a lead actor was Sangram. He gained fame for his next film, Dr. Bezbaruah, which was released in 1969, and went on to act in several films during the ensuing years. He performed in a few Hindi films as a character actor as well.
He has taken a leading role in several travelling plays, including Abaahan, Kohinoor, Hengul, and Shakuntala. In a few TV series, such as Writu aahe writu jaai, he also made an appearance.
