The 30-year-old cricketer, who returned to Mumbai Indians from the Gujarat Titans in a high-profile all-cash deal in November, is set to lead the franchise after a stellar career with the team.
Pandya takes over the captaincy reins from Rohit Sharma, who led the team to five IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. The news of Pandya's appointment was officially announced on the team's Instagram handle on Friday, marking a significant leadership transition for the powerhouse franchise.
In a statement, the Mumbai Indians acknowledged the legacy built by their previous captains, stating, "It is part of legacy building and staying true to the MI philosophy of being future-ready."
