Jasprit Bumrah Regains Top Spot In ICC ODI Player Rankings

Digital Desk: Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has reclaimed the top spot in the ICC men's ODI Player Rankings after helping India to a 10-wicket win over England in the first game at the Oval with a career-best haul of six for 19.

Bumrah had lost the top spot to Trent Boult of New Zealand in February 2020 after being No. 1 for most of the preceding two years. He has held the number one spot for 730 days, more than any other Indian and the ninth-most in history.

Bumrah, who has previously been No. 1 in T20Is and is currently ranked third in Tests, is only the second Indian fast bowler after Kapil Dev to hold the top spot in the ODI rankings.

Maninder Singh, Anil Kumble, and Ravindra Jadeja are the other top-ranked Indian bowlers.

Mohammad Shami, Bumrah's partner with the new ball, also advance after taking three for 31 and helping to dismiss England for 110 in 25.2 overs.

Shami has risen three places to joint-23rd place with teammate Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

In the batting chart, Rohit Sharma, India's captain, has closed the gap with third-placed Virat Kohli in the batting rankings to just one rating point after his quick-fire 76 not out helped India reach the target in just 18.4 overs. Meanwhile, left-hander Shikhar Dhawan moved to 12th place after his unbeaten 31.

England captain Jos Buttler has moved up one spot to 24th in the latest weekly rankings update, which also takes into account performances in the first two Ireland versus New Zealand matches and the first West Indies versus Bangladesh match.

Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal (up one spot to 19th), New Zealand's Tom Latham (up one spot to 21st), and Ireland's Harry Tector (up ten spots to 34th) are the other batters to move up the ODI rankings, while Bangladesh spinner Mehidy Hasan (up two spots to sixth) and New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson (re-entered at 18th) are the other notable gainers among bowlers.

After scoring a heroic 117 against England in the third and final T20I of the series, India's Suryakumar Yadav has climbed 44 spots in the ICC men's T20I Player Rankings, giving him a career-high fifth spot.

Nicholas Pooran of the West Indies has risen five places to eighth after scoring a match-winning 74 not out in the series finale match against Bangladesh.

After taking three for 15 in the second T20I in Birmingham, India seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has risen seven places to a career-high seventh position, while leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (up two places to 19th), Harshal Patel (up ten places to 23rd), and Bumrah (up six places to 27th) have also advanced.
