Digital Desk: Cricket fans worldwide watched in horror and sadness during a match when 35-year-old professional cricketer Imran Patel died in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The death arrived so unexpectedly that it was hard for people to believe that the cause of it was a heart attack.
On Wednesday night, during an ongoing practice match, Imran Patel, an opener, was dismissed when he complained of severe chest and arm pain. He told the on field umpires, and it was okay for him to go to the dressing room. However, Imran fainted when he went back to favor it on the pavilion.
The crowning incident was aired live during the match and broadcast. Opponents and other team members sprang to his aid and took him to the nearest hospital. Sadly, they claimed him as dead on arrival and admitted him to the hospital.
Many people were not able to accept seeing this tragedy because Imran was said to be in a good physical fitness and health state with no known medical complications. Overall, he was a fit and well-maintained man, even during the matches he participated in, as his is an all-rounder. Another shocked cricketer who spoke to the media said, “He was an active and healthy man apart from the fact that he had no known sickness before.” He was an active performer and instrumental in doing all the tasks. We are all devastated."
Imran Patel is survived by his wife and three young daughters; the youngest is just four months old. He was a popular personality in his community besides being a cricketer, businessman dealing in property, and owner of a juice stall.
This incident shows some similarity with the other tragic death of another cricketer, Habib Sheikh, who passed away in September this year during a match. But again, while Sheikh had diabetes, the sudden heart attack that killed Imran is a mystery to all to this day.
