Digital Desk: An al-Qaeda operative was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in a plan to detonate an IED in Lucknow, according to an official.

A senior investigating officer informed that Tawheed Ahmad Shah, a resident of the Budgam area of Jammu and Kashmir, was arrested on Monday.

According to the NIA official, the case was filed by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in Gomtinagar police station in July last year against the accused who conspired to recruit members for the global terrorist organization al-Qaeda's affiliate Ansaar Gajwatul Hind (AGH) to commit terrorist acts in Lucknow.

The NIA had previously arrested five suspects in the case, for whom a charge sheet had been filed last month.

According to the NIA official, Tawheed was the mastermind of the plan to recruit and commit terrorist acts in the name of AGH, which included the procurement of arms, ammunition, and explosive materials to be used in attacks in Uttar Pradesh.
