It is the first time that the Delhi Police have apprehended a gangster outside of India.

Deepak Boxer had been on the run since August 2022, when he murdered a realtor. Amit Gupta, a builder, was shot several times on a busy road in Delhi's Civil Lines neighbourhood.

Boxer claimed in a Facebook post that he murdered Gupta and that the motive for the murder was revenge rather than extortion.

He also claimed the realtor was connected to a rival gang, the Tillu Tajpuria gang. He claimed that Amit Gupta was the gang's financier.

Deepak Boxer was the Gogi gang's leader, assuming the position after Jitendra Gogi was murdered in 2021. Tillu gang members dressed as lawyers entered the court complex and shot Jitender Gogi.

According to police, Boxer fled the country using a forged passport. On January 29, he flew from Kolkata to Mexico under the alias Ravi Antil.
