Maharashtra Political Crisis: Section 144 imposed in Mumbai
Shinde, along with 38 party MLAs and nine independent MLAs, is campaigning at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati in BJP-ruled Assam from June 22.

Digital Desk: Mumbai Police on Saturday imposed Section 144 in the city amid the political crisis in Maharashtra.

Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code has already been implemented by the Thane District Administration, and an order prohibiting all political processions till June 30 has been issued. Eknath Shinde, the rebel leader, resides in Thane.

Along with many other MLAs from Maharashtra, Shinde has been camping in Assam.

The Thane District Collector and District Magistrate issued an order stating that "carrying sticks, or any type of arms, burning posters, or burning effigies are outlawed. Shouting  slogans or playing songs on speaker is also not permitted."

A high alert has already been issued by the Mumbai Police, who also sent orders to all police stations to provide security at all of the city's political offices. To protect their safety, it has been ordered that officer-level police personnel visit each political office.

While all of this is going on, Shinde wrote a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray about the allegedly "malicious" removal of security from the families of the 38 MLAs who were camping out with him at a Guwahati hotel.

Shinde said that the security provided to the MLAs at their residences and to their family members in accordance with protocol had been illegally and unlawfully withdrawn as retaliation in a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and State Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil.

Shinde claimed that security had been withdrawn, but Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil denied this.

"The removal of any MLA's security has not been ordered by the Chief Minister or the Home Department. The claims being made on Twitter are false and baseless "Patil remarked.

Notably, Shinde, along with 38 party MLAs and nine independent MLAs, is campaigning at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati in BJP-ruled Assam from June 22.
