Mukesh Ambani set to launch India's own ChatGPT rival 'Hanooman' in March
India is poised to take a significant step forward in the competitive realm of AI technology...

Digital Desk: Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani is gearing up to introduce a homegrown ChatGPT service for India, marking a significant stride in the country's AI landscape. Named 'Hanooman,' this AI model, developed in collaboration with top engineering schools and backed by a consortium of Reliance Industries and eight universities, is set to debut in March.

At a recent tech conference in Mumbai, the BharatGPT Group, a collaborative effort between Reliance Industries and leading Indian institutes like the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campuses, showcased Hanooman's capabilities. The model demonstrated its versatility by interacting in various local languages, including Tamil and Hindi, addressing queries from a diverse audience, from a motorcycle mechanic to a banker and a developer.

The proposed applications for Hanooman are vast, with a focus on key sectors such as healthcare, government services, finance, and education. This development aligns with Mukesh Ambani's vision, as he expressed during RIL's 46th Annual General Meeting last year, promising advanced AI systems similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT to cater to the needs of India's vast and diverse population.

Ganesh Ramakrishnan, from IIT Bombay’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering, highlighted Hanooman's user-friendly features, including speech-to-text capabilities. This enhancement aims to make the AI model more accessible and practical for a broader range of users.

The collaboration with Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd., a subsidiary of RIL, further strengthens the initiative. Reliance Jio is already working on Jio Brain, an AI platform intended to serve around 450 million subscribers. The company plans to create custom models tailored for specific purposes, contributing to the widespread adoption of AI-driven solutions across various sectors in India.

Mukesh Ambani's commitment to democratizing AI is evident in Jio's promise to deliver AI to everyone, everywhere. By spearheading the development of AI models uniquely designed for India, Reliance Industries aims to ensure that the benefits of AI reach individuals, enterprises, and government entities across the country. With Hanooman's impending launch, India is poised to take a significant step forward in the competitive realm of AI technology.
