A tense situation has erupted at the Runikhata Forest Range Office along the India–Bhutan border in Chirang district this morning. The unrest began on Thursday night when forest officials detained 25 individuals from the Adivasi community on charges of illegally encroaching upon protected forest land and were subsequently kept at the Runikhata Range Office for questioning. The protest soon turned violent, with demonstrators setting a vehicle on fire. In response, the Chirang district administration deployed a large contingent of police personnel to bring the situation under control. As of now, the protest continues, and authorities are closely monitoring the developments.
