Digital Desk: A police case was lodged against Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui after a Kolkata-based advocate accused him and Coca-Cola CEO of allegedly hurting the sentiments of the Bengali community.

Reportedly, the complaint has been lodged by Dibyayan Banerji, a lawyer from the Calcutta High Court. "Coca-Cola's main advertisement for its product Sprite was in Hindi. And that's not a problem for us. We just have a problem with the Bengali dubbing of the advertisement, which is currently airing on various TV networks and the internet," he said.

"Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is smiling at one of the jokes, which reads,'shoja anguley ghee na uthley, Bangali khali petey ghumiye porey'. In plain English, it indicates that Bengalis go to bed hungry if they can't simply obtain anything. And we believe that this is insulting to the Bengali community's sentiments," he added.

Reportedly, the company has removed the Bengali version of the advertising and issued an apology, stating that they regret the recent ad campaign for the cold drink and that the company respects the Bengali language.

The 20-second television commercial featured Nawazuddin laughing at a joke delivered by the Sprite bottle while standing at a train station. As per reports, the literal meaning of the joke was "If they can't take the ghee out with a straight finger, Bengali sleep hungry."

On the work front, Nawazuddin will next be seen in the film Afwaah, starring alongside Bhumi Pednekar. Additionally, he is working on Kangana Ranaut's Tiku Weds Sheru.
