Kangana Ranaut unapologetic, stands firm on labeling Urmila Matondkar 'soft porn star'

Digital desk: Kangana Ranaut, who is set to contest for the Lok Sabha in 2024 on a BJP ticket from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, sought to talk about the controversy over her previous remark about Urmila Matondkar being a "soft porn star."

During an interview at the Times Now Summit 2024 on Wednesday, Kangana said, “I am not justifying anything. If these actresses are comfortable with words such as tandoori murgi, item girlSheila ki Jawani, why is it seen as something violating?"

The Bollywood song "Fevicol Se" from the movie Dabangg 2, which starred Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, mentioned the term "Tandoori murgi," which compares a woman's figure to roasted chicken. In Tees Maar Khan, Katrina Kaif's performance of "Shiela ki Jawani" was accused of objectifying women. The actress didn't even stop here, after triggering the entire industry, she once again continued to talk about the recent controversy surrounding her.

She further said, “It is a matter of fact, if they are comfortable with this, why do you want to shame them? I personally do not think I had any intention of shaming her (Urmila Matondkar) because she is very comfortable in that role."

In response to Urmila Matondkar, Kangana Ranaut emphasized that labels like "porn star" and "soft porn" are not innately offensive. She also pointed out that in India, people in the adult entertainment industry, like actor Sunny Leone, are treated with respect.

"Tell me, are the terms 'soft porn' or 'porn star' objectionable?" Kangana said in Hindi. "Not at all! These are not negative terms. It's simply a socially unacceptable word. Nowhere else in the world does porn stars receive the level of respect they do in India—just ask Sunny Leone."

It all began when Supriya Shrinate, the chief of the Congress social media department, became involved in an incident over a social media post against Kangana Ranaut that has since been removed. An abusive comment directed towards Ranaut was purportedly posted by the Congress spokesperson.

In the meantime, an outdated 2020 video that had been re-posted on social media included Kangana Ranaut calling Urmila Matondkar a "soft porn star."

Ranaut appeared in a video talking about the drug culture that exists in Bollywood and asserting that 99 percent of the industry is exposed to narcotics. Urmila Matondkar responded to this by saying that Ranaut need to think about the drug trade in her native Himachal Pradesh. In an interview, Kangna Ranaut said that Urmila Matondkar wasn't well-known for her performance, and described her as a "soft porn actor".
