Digital Desk: Bollywood actress Rakul Preet was called to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as part of its investigation into an alleged money laundering case linked with the 2017 Tollywood drug case. According to media sources, the agency interrogated several other Telugu film industry actors, and Rakul was also summoned for the same case.

The actress who stars in the 2022 movie "Doctor G" has been called to appear before the ED on December 19 for questioning, according to reports.

The actor had earlier been called as part of the investigation and had appeared before the central investigative agency in September last year. Along with Rakul Preet, the ED summoned Pilot Rohith Reddy, a Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA, for questioning on Friday. Reportedly, he recently lodged a complaint in the MLA poaching case.

What exactly is the Tollywood drug case of 2017?

In 2017, Telangana's Prohibition and Excise Department nabbed a three-member gang, including musician turned drug lord Calvin Mascarenhas, for allegedly trafficking substances like as LSD and MDMA. Customs officers detained artist Calvin Mascarenhas and two other people on July 2, 2017, busting the drug network and seizing drugs worth Rs 30 lakh from their possession.

According to PTI, the gang had around 1,000 clients, including kids from city-based schools and universities, Tollywood actors and actresses, top executives from MNCs, and workers from Cyberabad IT firms. Actress Charmee Kaur, director Puri Jagannadh, and actor Nandu have all already testified before the ED in this case.
