Shah Rukh Khan To Make An Exit From Don 3; Makers Looking For A New 'A-list' Actor

Shah Rukh Khan decided to exit from Farhan Akhtar's Don 3 as he thought that the idea of spinning Don's universe was "gimmicky...

Digital Desk: Just days after producer Ritesh Sidhwani said in an interview that film-maker and actor Farhan Akhtar was working on the script of 'Don 3', a sequel to the 'Don' reboot, a new report says that the film's leading star, Shah Rukh Khan, decided to drop out of the project.

The makers were poised to make an official announcement about the new film in the 'Don' franchise being in the works, but according to reports, after having many thorough discussions with Khan, the actor does not appear to be interested in returning as Don in 'Don 3'.

The reports, which quoted a close source, stated that Khan wants to concentrate on commercial films for the time being, and 'Don' does not fit the bill.

"Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani have had numerous detailed discussions with Shah Rukh Khan about Don 3. A couple of concepts were also proposed prior to the pandemic that took the form of a script throughout the pandemic. Recent meetings have also taken place, however, Shah Rukh is not in the mood to play his role as Don at this time. Don most definitely does not match the category of cinema that he is willing to do in the upcoming years. He is eager to do commercial pictures that appeal to a broad segment of the audience. He has informed Excel's stakeholders of his decision," the report stated, citing a source.

Although, Khan wasn't pleased with the concept. "However, SRK thought the idea of spinning Don's universe would be tacky and thus informed the team about his exit," the report added. Bachchan played the role of the don in 1978, SRK in 2006 and 2011.

With Khan out of the picture, the producers are currently in talks with an actor who has starred in two blockbuster films in the last ten years.

"He is eager to fill Don's shoes, but has reservations because the franchise's legacy and the actors who have played Don in the past cannot be replicated. Don will be rebooted once one of the younger actors accepts the challenge," a source said.
