    Someone from northeast should have played the role of Mary Kom: Priyanka Chopra 
    Digital Desk: Bollywood diva and internationally acclaimed actor Priyanka Chopra reflected on her role played for iconic Mary Kom's biopic. Mary Kom is one of the several blockbuster movies of Priyanka Chopra.

    The actor Priyanka Chopra expressed her thoughts regarding the character played in Mary Kom during an interview. She shared that there is hardly any resemblance between Chopra and Mary Kom's looks.

    Besides having doubts, Chopra further revealed why she said yes to act on the film.

    Even though Priyanka Chopra received huge praises and applause from viewers for her movie Mary Kom, she was in doubt. She feels the role should have belonged to someone who also belongs from the northeast, just like Mary Kom. 

    During an interview with Vanity Fair, Chopra revealed why she said yes to the role. She said, "When I recreated Mary Kom, I was unsure about taking it on in the front because she was a living, breathing icon and made a place for so many female athletes. 

    She added, "Plus, I look nothing like her. She comes from the northeast of India, and I am from northern India. So, we physically didn't look alike. In hindsight, the part should have probably gone to someone from the northeast."

    "Though I was just greedy as an actor to get a chance to tell her story, because she boosted me so much, as a woman, as an Indian woman, as an athlete. When the filmmakers urged I do it, I was like, 'You know what? I'm going to do it," expressed Priyanka Chopra.

    The praised actor Chopra also went through a physical transformation to play the role of Mary Kom in the movie. The actress was not just challenged physically but also had to prepare herself mentally.

    Priyanka Chopra also added that she went to meet Mary Kom. Chopra said, "I spent time in her home, met her children, and met her husband. I had to spend almost five months training to learn the sport, which is not easy but physically altering my body and getting into an athlete's shape. Because I physically didn't look like her, I chose to represent her spirit."

    Currently, Priyanka Chopra will soon be seen in Jee Le Zaraa. The movie will further star Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif.
