Digital Desk: Actor Priyanka Chopra discussed how ‘all is not well with our world’ during her speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
In her opening remarks at a meeting at the United Nations General Assembly on Monday, the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador stressed the significance of leaders working together to protect the "fundamental cornerstone of a just world that we fought for."
Priyanka said in her address, "We meet today at a critical point in our world, at a time when global solidarity is more important as countries struggle with the COVID-19's devastating effects, as the climate crisis has an impact on lives, as conflicts rage, and as poverty, displacement, hunger, and inequalities destroy the very foundation of a just world that we have fought for, for such a long time."
Even though "everything is not well" around the globe, the actor claimed that there is a plan of action to improve things through the UN Sustainable Development Goals. "The Sustainable Development Goals of the UN are a global to-do list. Together with people from all over the world, these objectives were developed in 2015. We have a unique opportunity to transform the world when we work together. Our people expect it from us. We owe it to the environment. We all deserve to live in a just, secure, and healthy world. You and I hold the key to the present and the future," she said.
Priyanka emphasised the urgency of the plan, saying that action had to be taken right away to ensure that everyone may continue to live in a livable world. " But the clock is ticking. The deadline of 2030 for achieving these goals is almost upon us. We don't have time to waste, the Secretary-General said in his speech. Representatives of the very nations that committed to those targets in 2015 are present in this room. leaders who can work with us all to implement that strategy. Thus, today is a day of action. It's about aspiration, but it's also about what we must accomplish as a team to make the SDGs a reality," she added.
