Digital Desk: Bollywood actor Salman Khan has filed an appeal in the Bombay High Court against the Sessions Court's earlier judgment refusing to issue a restraining order against his Panvel farmhouse neighbour, NRI Ketan Kakkar.

Reportedly, in his petition to the High Court, Salman said that Ketan had made multiple derogatory social media statements about him. He added that Ketan's statements are not only defamatory and disparaging against him but also blatantly racist and cause division among the community. On August 22, a single judge bench of the Bombay High Court presided over by Justice CV Bhadang, will hear the case. Salman said in his complaint that the defendants are actually promoting racial violence and anti-Hindu-Muslim prejudice by making aggressive, misleading, and religiously based statements that are completely irrelevant and illogical.

In a previous defamation case filed by the Bollywood star due to the former's social media remarks, the Sessions Court declined to issue a restraining order against Ketan in March. On March 23, Sessions Court Judge AH Laddhad delivered his decision. A comprehensive order was released subsequently.

The judgment stated that Ketan had placed on record information such as complaints and show-cause notices to Salman regarding charges of encroachment on his Panvel property, the 100-acre farm, in the public interest as a "whistleblower." Notably, Kakkar has stated that he and his wife purchased a specific piece of land next to Salman's home in 1995 with the intention of building a house, ashram, temple, etc.

Kakkar also claimed that the Maharashtra forest department cancelled the piece of land allocated to him at the request and in conjunction with Khan and that the entry and exit points to his plot of land were illegally obtained and obstructed by the construction of a gate. He further stated that he had built an environmentally friendly Ganesh Temple, but entry to it was supposedly prohibited and the Salman family had taken possession of it.
